New York Jets offensive lineman Alex Lewis, who left the team earlier this month, has decided to retire, multiple outlets reported Wednesday.
The Jets put Lewis on the exempt / left team list after Lewis’ last training session on August 5th. Lewis walked off the pitch with a head injury and left the team afterwards.
Lewis, 29, reportedly clashed with players and coaches last season during the Jets’ 2-14 season, but was encouraged by the arrival of new coaching staff for 2021. He took a pay cut. of nearly $ 3 million over the past season to stay with the team.
He was supposed to support recruit Alijah Vera-Tucker, the No. 14 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft this season.
Lewis played 44 games (39 as a starter) for the Baltimore Ravens (2016, 2018) and the Jets. He missed the entire 2017 season due to a shoulder injury that required surgery.
